Weight Loss 2016. Week 8. Lessons Learned: Snacks and Fru Fru Drinks

When I lost 110 pounds I ate and trained like an athlete.  After that I was looking for normal and did not maintain my strict regimen.  I don’t want to maintain that strict regimen.  Eating and exercising like clockwork and limiting social appearances is not fun.  But being thin is fun.  I am trying to learn how to do the fun things I enjoy and look rockin’ hot doing it.  It’s a journey.

I had no weigh outs this week, only one weigh in.  Three weeks from tomorrow I plan to have a weigh out every Monday/Tuesday.  I plan to enter enough competitions they roll back to back.

Last Wednesday I had court in Broward County in the morning.  At 1:30 I set off for court in West Palm Beach.  At 6 I went to a charity event where I was supposed to join a friend, except she wasn’t there.  I sat next to a really nice guy.  He was big and on a diet.  He ordered chicken wings and gave me some.  He also insisted on giving me his chair, men, take note.  I sure am glad that guy gave me wings because the event was so packed I never saw a waiter the rest of the night.  I have never left a restaurant so hungry.  I ate when I came home, too much.

Thursday I was going down the elevator after work with a young, small female attorney.  She always hauls a really large insulated lunch box, the size of a small cooler.  I asked what she packed, lunch and two snacks.  I asked what she brought, a sandwich for lunch, cookies and fritos for snacks.  I asked if she ate breakfast.  She does, cereal, milk and a banana.  She likes to eat the same thing every day.  I would weigh 300 pounds if I ate like this tiny female.  But I went home that night and, once again, ate too much for dinner.  I knew why.  It was because I ate a salad with chicken for lunch at about noon.  I was ravenous at dinner.  I need snacks.  They keep me from eating too much for dinner.

On Friday night I went out with my friend Nancy, who is an elite Yelper.  What does that mean?  Nancy writes a lot of review for Yelp.  People like Nancy’s reviews.  She won an award last year.

Nancy was going to a Yelp karaoke event.  She wanted to take me.  I am a good singer.  There were a lot of good singers that night.

Prior to karaoke Nancy made a dinner reservation at a nice restaurant.  We were four.  I was the only non-elite Yelper.  I saw, and liked, how elite Yelpers eat.  We ordered quite a few appetizers.  We all ate a little.  I was very proud of my eating.  I had a good time.  I woke up in the morning feeling oh-so-terrible.  I cannot remember the last morning I woke up feeling so badly, gastrointestinal.  What could it be?  I didn’t eat too much.

I think I know.  I had two signature cocktails in that fancy restaurant, girly drinks.

The karaoke event was at a coffee house.  I drank two kombuchas (fermented tea).  A Yelper purchased and handed me a glass of red wine.  I hadn’t asked for it.  I drank it.  I also drank iced coffee (no sugar).  The signature cocktails were drank between 7-8.  I left the coffee house at midnight.  I believe I felt so sick because of the high concentration of sugar in the two signature cocktails.  I think there may have also been sugar in the kombucha.  I sometimes buy kombucha at the grocery store.  It is not high in sugar.  But at the grocery store drinks are labeled, this is not the case in restaurants.  It makes restaurants dangerous.

I gained a significant amount of weight overnight and felt sick for a couple days.  That’s what happens when you go from pretty clean eating, or at least nearly sugar-free eating to sugar eating, gastrointestinal pain.

I used to not drink.  But then I started hanging out with my friend, Davilicious.  He likes to drink.  I found I can drink with Davilicious and still lose weight.  But we’re not making coconut mojitos and acai caipirinhas at his house.

I was talking to a very nice lawyer about weight loss ahead of Wednesday’s hearing.  He expressed his calories-in/calories-out philosophy.  I respectfully disagree.  Someone complained on DietBet she ate shrimp scampi and gained 4 lbs in one meal.  For me, sugar is dangerous as all get out.
