THE HILLMANNS OF BROOKLYN
CHAPTER 40
1930
Ya know how you can be a blonde when you're a kid but for some reason become a brunette as an adult? I hate that. Marian was 20 years old for most of 1930. My father still has this desk.
Remember Marian's first boyfriend, Billy Staab? If not, he was introduced in Hillmanns #26, you can go back. Here he is in the top row, second from right.
The market crashed and Marian included a photo of The New York Stock Exchange in her album.
As well as a picture of St. Paul's Cathedral.
I think Billy Staab is a friend of the past, but Marian has a new friend named Billie, Billie Mueller.
Billie with her cat.
Billie with a boyfriend.
How much fun does that look like?
Is this a new Billie or did Billy Staab grow up to be this handsome?.
Tennis with the twins, Helen and Claire, and apparently you wear industrial-strength nylons to play tennis in 1930.
Marian wants to know if we think this looks like a He Man? It's Ray who appears in so many Hillmanns albums. He had to have been close to Marian. I wonder if he was a boyfriend or just a friend. Personally, the shortness of the shorts does not make me think He man, but that may have been different in 1930.
That's Al Hearn. Keep watching. We will see more of him.
Marian dressed for a masquerade.
Helen dressed for the masquerade.
Marian pegged this photo as Dutch Candy Kitchen. I don't know if that was a play or a party. Hillmanns albums come out on Tuesday. Next week we take a tour on the El Oriente and later go to East Quoque, Long Island.
