Hillmann's 10 1916

THE HILLMANN'S OF BROOKLYN

Chapter 10

1916

My father gave me the Hillmanns pictures.  They were, for the most part, unmarked.  They did not tell us where the Hillmanns' were, the date the picture was taken, or who is in the pictures.  I assigned dates to many of  them based upon the order in which they appeared in albums and how old Marian looked.  I have placed these pictures at 1916.  While we can locate our core family of Hillmanns in these pictures, I don't know who the rest of the people are.  Looks to me like a family with three daughters and one son.  I have yet to find such a family in my genealogy.

Marian is in the middle.

Could be anywhere.

I don't know if this is friends or family.  If I was guessing I would think cousins of Herman or Rose, but I don't know enough about their cousins to be sure. Someday Ancestry.com may link me with these particular cousins.

Does Rose figure prominently because these are her people?  Or is it because Herman is taking the picture?

I'm glad we at least know Rose or else it's like those poor lonely, undentified people in the pictures at Cracker Barrel.

I'm guessing some fun was had on this trip.

Tune in next week when it's 1917 and the Hillmanns move from Brooklyn to Essex County, New Jersey, but they don't stay there long, they go back to Brooklyn.

Hillmann's 9. Grandparents

THE HILLMANN'S OF BROOKLYN

Chapter 9.

1915

Grandparents

One day, in approximately 1915, Herman and Rose Siegele took their daughter, Marian, to visit Rosie's family.  In the back row we have Herman Hillmann, Angelica Siegele (Rose's younger sister), Henry Siegele (Rose's brother), William Siegele (Rose's brother), then Rose herself. Rose is touching her mother, Henrietta Steffen Siegele, Marian Hillmann snuggles up to her Granny.

We are now leaving this day with Marian's Siegele grandparents and heading over to visit the Hillmanns.  We are going to start by picking up Herman's mother, Emma Sackmann Hillmann Schmidt.

If there's one thing Hillmanns love to do it's go to the beach. Here's Herman with his Mom, Emma and his step-father, Otto Schmidt. Herman's daughter, Marian, is in front of him, the other little girl is Ruth Sedlock, Herman's sister Louise's daughter.

These bating suits were made of wool and soft to the touch.

Four Generations. Emma Sackmann Hillmann Schmidt, her grandaughters, Ruth and Dorothy Sedlock, their mother Louise Hillmann Sedlock (Standing), Emma's mother, Christina Dunker Sackmann Burkhardt. Christina was born in Schleswig-Holstein (Germany).

Join us next week for the year 1916.

Hillmanns 8 1914 Massachusetts Vacation

THE HILLMANNS OF BROOKLYN

Chapter 8

1914

Massachusetts Vacation

Back in 1900 Herman went abroad, all over Europe.  From the pictures, this is the next trip he took outside of the State of New York, and the first trip with his family.  They went to Massachusetts.

Herman, Marian and Rose

I don't who these people are. I don't know if they are family or other people at the cabins.

We see the girl on the left in other albums, but I don't know who she is.

The Hillmanns are in Great Barrington, and that's how we know where they are.

Cute little girls

If you enjoyed this album, there are 7 chapters ahead of it. Next week, the Hillmanns visit with both sets of grandparents in 1915.

Hillmann's 7. 1914

THE HILLMANNS OF BROOKLYN

Chapter 7

1914

Rose Loves Marian

Marian with her "Pa", Herman

Must have been cold outside.

Cowboys and Indians

Two Indian Princesses

What's a Summer without sailing? The Hillmanns made an annual trek to relative's in Long Island, but we don't know which relative.  Rose is in the same nautically-themed dress she wore the last time, but Marian sure has grown. Ladies, can you imagine dressing like this to go on this little sailboat?

How do you teach your New York City daughter about cows?  You show her one and let her ride it.

The love this family has for each other shines through these pictures.

Observation Tower? If you enjoyed this album there are six ahead of it on this blog. Next week we're going on vacation to Massachusetts!
